I installed OSX Lion this morning and jBliss is one of the programs that it doesn't like. It says that PowerPC applications are no longer supported. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Tully

I suspect that a new version will be out soon. In the mean time, if you don't mind some surgery you can make it work on your system. If these steps are too hard or frightening for you then please don't take them. Use them at your own risk. With all that said, here are the steps that worked for me:

  1. Find your existing Bliss app and ctrl-click on it and choose Show Package Contents. You'll see a folder named Contents.
  2. Select the Contents folder and from the menu choose Edit > Copy "Contents".
  3. Create a new folder on your desktop or in a similar location. Open it in a Finder window. Choose Edit > Paste Item. The Contents folder should now be copied into your new folder.
  4. Inside the copied Contents folder open the MacOS folder and drag the JavaApplicationStub file to the Trash.
  5. In a new Finder window navigate to
    Code: Select all
    /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Resources/MacOS
An easy way to do this is to copy the above path and from the Finder's menu choose Go > Go to Folder..., paste in the path and click Go.
  6. Copy JavaApplicationStub from this folder into the other MacOS folder you have open. It will replace the one you dragged into the Trash.
  7. Finally, rename the new folder you created to be named Bliss.app. When the Finder prompts you whether to add the extension, click Add. It will change appearance to look like Bliss.
  8. Double-click on your new Bliss to open it. If it works you can drag the old one into the Trash and replace it with the new one.

Note for those wanting to take a shortcut: simply replacing the JavaApplicationStub in the existing Bliss package contents is not enough. You also need to create the new folder for the above steps to succeed.

The fix you mentioned above works great. The only issues I'm having is that the game doesn't recognize my F2 key so I have to start the game via the drop down menu and the dice do not have any motion to them (they just stay in the same place but change numbers when you roll).

Other than that the game is working under OSX Lion for me.

Thanks!

Hi,

A lot of Mac keyboards have an F Key that you need to push to make the F keys work as F keys instead of other functions. Did you try that?

The dice never did have motion.

Thanks,

Don

I'm not Mac savvy enough to get that deep into the computer. Any plans for an update?

Don,

Do you have a timeline yet on how long it might be before you can make an update available for Lion? I am one of those that does not really want to make internal changes to the code. I've still got iBliss, so I don't want to rush you. I just thought it would be encouraging for everyone to know when you do get an idea of when this might be available. Of course, we've been pleasantly surprised so many times when things come out that I am willing to see that happen too!

Don't be afraid to try the fix above; the instructions are clear and it works very well. My copy of Bliss now works under OS X Lion just as well as it did under Snow Leopard.

This sounds like it will work if you had a previous version of Bliss to begin with. What if you're like me and just downloaded Bliss (jBliss, actually) for the first time?

Until the next version of jBliss comes out I believe that you'll need to take the above steps to get it running on Lion. However if you just downloaded jBliss you can take them with more confidence because you don't have to worry about deleting any of your custom data.
