The ability to pause an action

I would like the ability to pause an action. Sometimes there's an action that is a good one, but it plays about every time we play the game. I would like the ability to simply pause the action action, and be able to re-instate it at some future date, without saving it to a different game file and/or deleting and entering it in later again.
