Clean Installation mode

Postby ed » Thu Mar 09, 2006 11:10 pm

Having glanced around some of the problems people are having in the bug reports section, eg:
-corrupt licence files
-out of date playlists (eg wma instead of mp3 when upgrading to a HQ version)
-general corruption of settings/files in the Bliss directory

...it seems that a certain number of these could be prevented by having a "Clean Install" mode that removes existing versions of Bliss (eg: the game folder, the playlists etc) that could be used as a first port of call if people are having issues with the game.

What do you think?

Ed,

That is probably a good idea. It probably can't actually be an install mode, but I could supply a simple program that would "reset" all of the settings files and registry entries. It would be easy to do, and would be a useful trouble shooting (and correcting) tool.

Bliss is designed not to change user settings if it finds that they exist. For example, whenever Bliss runs, it looks for the playlists. If they exist, it leaves them alone because the user might have customized them. If they don't exist, it creates them, but then it will never change them again. The reset tool could just delete them and remove the registry settings and the license files. Then everything would be restored by the game the next time it was played.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Yes, perhaps a troubleshooting link in the Bliss start menu folder which gives a "1-2-3" of things to try as well as having a "reset all" button that clears licences, playlists and the like.
